Exterior Painting

Exterior Painting done the way it should be

Most exterior paint jobs fail at the prep, not the paint. Around Arlington the houses are old, the clapboards have decades of layers on them, and the winters are hard on anything that was not scraped and primed properly. That is where we spend our time.

Before a brush touches the house we wash or scrape off loose paint, sand the edges, fix soft trim and sills, prime bare wood, and caulk open seams. Then two finish coats go on with Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams exterior paint, picked for the surface and the exposure of each side of the house.

Sergio runs every exterior job himself. You get the same person from the estimate to the final walk-around, and if something in our workmanship is not right, we come back and fix it at no cost.

What is included

  • Hand scraping and sanding of loose and peeling paint
  • Spot priming of bare wood and stain blocking where needed
  • Caulking of seams, corner boards and window casings
  • Rotted trim, clapboard and sill replacement (carpentry)
  • Two finish coats on body, trim, doors and shutters
  • Drop cloths over plantings, walkways and decks, daily cleanup

Scraped, primed and painted to last through the next ten winters.

Exterior Painting: common questions

Usually from late April through October, when daytime temperatures stay above the minimum on the paint can and nights are not too cold. We plan around rain and heat, and book early spring and fall jobs first.
Yes. Carpentry is part of what we do. Soft trim, clapboards and sills are replaced before paint goes on, because painting over rot only hides it for a season.
We work with Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams exterior lines. The exact product depends on the surface, the condition of the old paint and your budget, and it is written into the estimate.
No. Most homeowners are at work during the job. We only need access to outdoor outlets and water, and we check in with you at the end of each phase.
